Meet The Team: Simon Vanasse

5 June 2024

1. What's your role at Metro Optic and what's a typical day like ?

My title is VP Channel Sales. So my role is to support Metro Optic's agents/resellers across Canada and the USA. A typical day starts at 7:30 AM and ends around 6:00 PM. In a day there are :

  • File follow-ups;
  • New customer meetings;
  • Requests for information from the Fiber Network Planning and Engineering dept;
  • Meetings with the order/installation office team;
  • Drafting of contractual agreements;
  • “Emergencies/crises” of the day.

2. What attracted you to the telecommunications sector ?

My father worked all his life for a major telecom company in Canada (Northern Telecom). So I was exposed to the world of telecoms from an early age. I went on to study management & mkg, made the leap into sales fairly quickly and have never looked back.

3. What do you like best about working for Metro Optic ?

What I enjoy most is making a difference to people and businesses. The industry in which Metro Optic operates is growing fast (20% annually), and our solutions enable businesses and organizations to compete more effectively in the North American/global economy.

4. What do you think sets Metro Optic apart from other companies in the sector ?

Metro Optic is a little diamond that's about to get big! It's a company that can afford its dreams, but hasn't become too big or too heavy either. So we're very nimble, even though we're at the heart of an industry dominated by elephants, which means that one man's share becomes completely diluted.

5. Outside work, what are your hobbies or interests ?

I have a lot, but it can be divided into two categories: sports activities (skiing, cycling, swimming, golf, canoe-camping, triathlon, hiking, etc.) and cultural activities (literature, theater, cinema, concerts, festivals, gastronomy, ballet, opera, etc.).
